Screen_shot_2010-04-12_at_14.55.34UK design and art collective Troika wowed the crowd at the Design Indaba in Cape Town with its cheeky computer programme, Newton Virus, which allows gravity to take effect upon unwitting desktops – without damaging any files. The programme has been around for a while now, though Troika explained they are currently working on a new version after Apple recently intercepted them.

   

Design Indaba 2010 is over but not forgotten

Screen_shot_2010-04-09_at_17.04.16Two of the most over-hyped presentations of the Indaba were those by trend forecaster Li Edelkoort and Martha Stewart. Edelkoort returns to Design Indaba year after year, and year after year the local design press hangs on her every word. She started with the obvious, namely that the ‘new man’ is a publicly tender man, one that can display public affection to his children.

Johannesburg creatives help rebuild Haiti

By participating in the Pecha Kucha Global Night for Haiti on 20th February 2010 at 20h20, creative people in Johannesburg helped raise US$ 1 million to be used by Architecture for Humanity to rebuild homes, schools, public buildings and other built environments in earthquake-devastated Haiti.

   

Joburg one of world's most creative cities

A host of award-winning Johannesburg advertising agencies have placed the city in a leading position in world creativity rankings. The Cannes Report 2009 placed Joburg in the top 10 of the world's Most Creative Cities last year, based on its innovative advertising industry. Joburg came in ahead of cities such as San Francisco, Amsterdam, Berlin and Buenos Aires.
